I’ve been away for a little while because Kya was experiencing some shaking over a few days. After a short vet visit, I was informed that Kya was low on Calcium and vitamin D3 which are essential for digestion and bone health. She went on a liquid calcium supplement as well as an assist feeding diet to improve her calcium and D3 levels. Just after one day on her regime we noted a significant improvement in

her alertness and the shaking did not come back. Overall the vet let me know that Kya is a very healthy dragon and this is a common occurrence for dragons who don’t spend enough time on both sides of their enclosure. The cause of her lack of D3 was due to her lack of UVA light. Since she has a favorite spot on her branch under the UVB bulb , she never bothered to go to the other side where the UVA lamp was. This caused some issues with her calcium levels as well because she needs the rays for digestion and absorption of nutrients. I solved the problem by simply moving the bulbs closer to where she enjoys sitting most and this has continue to work since. If ever your dragon is experiencing symptoms such as shaking and lack of alertness, low D3 and calcium levels may be to blame. It is simple to treat right away by bathing the beardie in some powdered or liquid calcium and feeding small amounts of liquid calcium and water from a syringe. This is only something you can do until you have a chance to see a vet. Its more important to have a doctor look at the beardie rather than doing at-home remedies as lack of treatment can lead to death or paralysis due to weak or broken bones. I’m glad Kya was able to recover quickly. She’s now spunky and friendly as always and continues to grow like a weed.
